Saturday TalkCafe offers opportunities for people from various countries talk and exchange information in English on topics regarding their daily lives. Your participation would be highly appreciated.

Saturday TalkCafe  
"Talk to a Non-Japanese in Trouble in English"
Enjoy role playing to solve problems that non-Japanese have encountered due to their inability to communicate in Japanese. Acquire skills to communicate with non-Japanese in English.
Time: Undesided (to be notified shortly)
Place: MIFA
Non-Japanese coordinators will give you tips about communication.
Limited Enrollment: 30
Fee: 100 yen (MIFA member) / 300 yen (non-MIFA member)
※Please register yourself as a MIFA member. The annual membership fee is 500 yen as of Oct. onward (valid until Mar.31, 2016; free for a high school student)

Let's Visit Meguro Sky Park and Talk

Content Twenty seven participants enjoyed friendship under the sun. First, we were informed what books are available and instructed how to use libraries in Meguro-ku. Then we enjoyed trees and flowers, and were advised about cultivation of grape vines and vegetables from a volunteer. Then we enjoyed talk in a meeting room of the library. Finally we went to Ohashi Hikawa Shrine, where the chief priest kindly explained the history of the shrine and local people's faith in Mt.Fuji.

Let’s visit Meguro Eco-plaza and talk over recycling!
Time Nov.30(Sat.)10:00-12:00AM
Content International participants and Japanese volunteers visited Meguro Eco-Plaza, where a staff member of Eco-life Meguro Promotion Association kindly explained the history of the plaza, garbage policies taken by Meguro City. Then a workshop to separate garbage was conducted, and how it will be recycled was explained. Thereafter, they visited a recycle shop in the plaza and learned a lot of items including furniture is being sold. Finally, they talked about recycling and also prepared for the 9th MIFA Int'l Exchange Festival, where "Talk on Everyday Life" boot will be held.

Saturday TalkCafe (2nd Event) ― Visit Shopping Areas and Talk ―

★We enjoyed walking along Musashikoyama and Togoshiginza shopping streets. At a cafe, participants were divided into two groups and enjoyed talking and exchanged information in English. After the talk, they enjoyed lunch and shopping.

1st Session Report

Contents: Visiting Ohashi Library, Meguro Sky Park, Higashiyama Park and Talking
★We visited Meguro Sky Park, which has just opened on Apr.1, 2013, in the gentle spring sunlight.
The park consists of areas with different themes. We enjoyed cherry blossoms and other beautiful
flowers there. Ohashi Library is spacy and abundant with lookouts.
Peach trees were in full blossom at Higashiyama Park.
We talked over a cup of coffee at Room NO.2 of Higashiyama Community Center.

Voices of Participants
P: I didin't think Meguro City has so much nature.
It has a lot of parks and public facilities, which is not the case in Thailand.
E: I like walking around. I sometimes ride a bike.
Kataseenoshima is one of my favorite areas.
 I like a large park near Kichijoji.
L: I love kayaking, but it is not possible in Meguro City.
I often jog in Koamazawa Park.
P: I'd like to see a sunrise on a New Years Day.
Is there any such place as I can see one?
I: You can see one on a bridge across Komazawa Street at Komazawa Park.
A lot of people gather there on a New Year's Day.
P: I like a Tokyo Bay cruise on a ferry.
A:How about going to Rinshinomori Park if you want to see nature.
I would like someone to explain names of trees and flowers.
